Activities in Oxnard, Ventura and Ventura County

Channel Island National Park

The headquarters for the youngest US national park, Channel Island, are located in Ventura, just a 10–15-minute drive from the resort. The visitor center features exhibits, activities for children and often has documentaries highlighting the history of the islands. Well worth a visit.

Island Packers

A reputable company offering trips to Anacapa, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands. Anacapa is about 12 miles offshore, Santa Cruz about 23 miles and Santa Rosa a bit farther. Regular trips to San Miguel and Santa Barbara islands are not available.

The five islands together form Channel Islands National Park. Each trip takes most of a day, but they’re enjoyable and informative, offering opportunities to see dolphins, sea lions and  various birds, including California brown pelicans.

Seabee Museum

A hidden gem located about 10 minutes from the resort. Beautifully curated galleries highlight the creation, evolution and accomplishments of the US Navy Seabees. Well worth a visit — children of all ages will enjoy it.

Mission San Buenaventura

Founded in 1782 by Father Junípero Serra — now Saint Junípero Serra — the mission has been elevated to a basilica, a beautiful church from that era.  Enjoy lovely gardens and a gift shop offering a variety of mementos. About a 20-minute drive from the resort.

Museum of Ventura County

Located across the street from the mission, the museum features a rare collection of Chumash Indian baskets donated by Dr. Cephas Bard and his family. Dr. Bard was the first physician in Ventura County. About a 20-minute drive.

Reagan Library and Air Force One

The largest presidential library in the country — a must-see. The current exhibit focuses on cowboys, a fitting tribute to Reagan’s Western spirit. Visitors can also tour Air Force One and Marine One. Approximately a 50-minute drive.

California State University Channel Islands

The youngest campus in the California State University system, located on the grounds of the former Camarillo State Hospital — made famous by the Eagles’ song Hotel California. A beautiful campus worth exploring, about a 20-minute drive.

California State University Channel Islands Library

A beautiful steel and glass modern structure built in the midst of traditional Spanish style whitewashed walls and red tiled roof buildings. The architecture beautifully blends old and new. About a 20-minute drive.
