Representation

CANS is the largest state society for neurological surgery in the country, with nearly 400 members.  We send delegates to the CMA and report directly to the parent organizations and Neurosurgery PAC.

Advocacy

We represent neurosurgeons in California in all practice settings, including those in small private, hospital-employed, academic, and large managed care group positions,  The scope of our interests and activities span all these different stakeholders.  For example, we have worked on malpractice reform, collected survey data to help ensure fair ER compensation, and are a voice on reimbursement committees for major payors.

Practice Support

We are a resource for practice management optimization and cost containment, human resources and medical-legal issues, and contract negotiations.  Members have access to a vast directory of practicing neurosurgeons in the state.

Education

CANS has a strong interest in education both for current trainees as well as those already in practice.  We offer free membership to residents and offer two fellowship positions a year to promote activism among trainees.  We are a portal to good online educational resources.
